After Completion & Selling (WA)
What happens once construction finishes — and what changes if you sell the property later as an owner-builder in Western Australia.
Completion comes first
Before a building can be legally occupied or considered complete, final inspections and approvals must be satisfied.
- All required inspections must be completed and passed
- Any outstanding defects or conditions must be resolved
- Completion documentation must be issued where required
Important
Completion is a compliance milestone. Selling obligations are separate
and should not distract you from getting this stage right.
Selling as an owner-builder (WA)
Selling a property you owner-built can trigger additional obligations, depending on timing and circumstances.
- Disclosure requirements may apply when selling within certain periods
- Buyers may require evidence of approvals, inspections, and compliance
- Incomplete or missing records can delay or derail a sale
Common misconception
Selling obligations do not replace construction-phase responsibilities —
they sit on top of them later.
Why records matter long after the build
Good record-keeping protects you both at completion and years later.
- Inspection records and certificates
- Approved plans and variations
- Trade invoices and warranties
- Insurance documents
Where this fits in the WA process
These issues sit at the end of the owner-builder journey — after approvals, insurance, construction and inspections.
