VIC: Inspections

How inspections fit into the process, what to prepare, and how to avoid rework.

In 60 seconds

  • Inspections are “hold points” — don’t cover work before sign-off.
  • Book early: delays happen when people assume next-day availability.
  • Keep photo evidence + certificates as you go.

What to do

  1. Ask your building surveyor for a written inspection schedule early.
  2. Before each stage: confirm what must be visible and what documents are needed.
  3. Keep a folder for outcomes: date, notes, photos, rectification items.

Common mistakes

  • Covering waterproofing / framing / services before inspection.
  • Not collecting compliance certificates from trades.
  • Not documenting changes/variations — then struggling at final sign-off.
